Men’s healthcare as part of our Family Medicine services in Northwest Calgary, including preventive care, routine health assessments, sexual health concerns and ongoing chronic disease care.
Men’s health includes more than treating an illness after symptoms appear. Regular primary care can help you understand your health risks, discuss changes or concerns and make informed decisions about screening and prevention.
Appointments provide a private setting to discuss physical, sexual and emotional health. Depending on your needs, a physician may recommend an examination, laboratory testing, follow-up care or referral to another healthcare professional.
Your care is individualized. Recommendations depend on your symptoms, age, medical history, family history and individual risk factors.
Review your current health, medications, family history, lifestyle factors and symptoms. Your visit may include a blood pressure check and an individualized assessment of health risks.
Discuss screening for blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, colorectal cancer, prostate health, sexually transmitted infections, mental health and other age or risk related concerns.
Review factors such as blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, tobacco use and family history, and discuss whether blood tests or other follow-up are appropriate.
Assessment for urinary or prostate-related concerns such as changes in urine flow, frequency, nighttime urination, discomfort or blood in the urine. PSA testing may be discussed when appropriate.
Private discussion of sexual function, fertility, contraception, genital symptoms or changes in sexual wellbeing. Testing, treatment or referral may be recommended based on your assessment.
Speak with a physician about symptoms, possible exposure, a new sexual partner or questions about STI testing. Appropriate testing and follow-up depend on your sexual and health history.
Men’s health care may also include ongoing support for chronic conditions and emotional wellbeing.
Care may include monitoring, medication reviews, blood tests, counselling, follow-up planning and referrals when appropriate.
Consider booking if you are due for a routine health review, want to discuss screening or prevention, have new or persistent symptoms, have urinary, prostate or sexual health concerns, want STI testing, need chronic-condition follow-up, have medication questions, or your mood, stress or sleep is affecting daily life.
Online information cannot determine which assessment or treatment you need. Speak with a healthcare professional about symptoms that concern you.
Bring your Alberta Health Care card, a list of medications and supplements, relevant records or recent test results, requested home readings, details about when symptoms started and questions you want to discuss.
Your physician will review the reason for your visit and may discuss your medical history, medications, family history and lifestyle. The appointment may include a focused examination, measurements, screening discussions or testing recommendations.
You may receive lifestyle guidance, medication recommendations, laboratory or diagnostic testing instructions, follow-up planning or a referral to another healthcare professional when appropriate.
